IDEA Space offers after school STEAM classes, field trips, partnerships and programs for students in preschool through grade 12 throughout the Kansas City metro area.
As a community resource, we welcome your children, your students and your groups to our space, with a focus on creating consistent and ongoing STEAM experiences for every learner.

  • Pokémon Exploration Adventure

    Calling all Pokémon Trainers! Join us for a STEAM-focused adventure where students explore Pokémon habitats, engineer Poké Ball catapults and dive into the coding app Scratch Jr. They’ll design their own Pokémon and build academic confidence as they learn to think like scientists, engineers and designers.

  • Build Your Own Drone

    Take to the skies with this hands-on engineering adventure! Students build, test and customize their own drone while learning to launch, land and perform aerial acrobatics like a pro. Through engineering obstacle courses and flight challenges, students develop problem-solving, critical thinking and engineering skills. Best of all, they take home a drone of their very own at the end of the course!

  • The Knight School Chess Class

    The Knight School teaches students of all skill levels and ages to play chess. It’s the ultimate game of strategic thinking. This course features fast chess clocks, colorful silicone wristbands, zany movies, tournaments, tactics curriculum and a fun spirit that kids love. This semester-long class includes a chess set with the first enrollment. Beginners are welcome! Already taken this class? Repeat it to build your skills.

  • Brick Bunch

    On your mark, get set, BUILD! Students tackle exciting engineering challenges independently and with partners or teams, developing creativity, problem-solving and teamwork skills along the way. Every week clicks together with a new building adventure can inspire your young engineer to think outside the brick!

  • Sew & Tell

    Stitch, design, and create in this hands-on maker class. From sewing machines to Cricuts, students learn to craft unique, personalized projects while exploring sewing techniques and design principles. Your young designer will create custom tote bags, pillowcases, tablet sleeves, book covers and more while building practical skills and confidence. They will leave the workshop with handmade creations and be proud to sew and tell.

  • Mad Science: NASA Academy of Future Space Explorers

    Students embark on a voyage of discovery with unique hands-on activities and amazing demonstrations that explore the sun and stars, space technology, rocket science, the atmosphere, planets, moons and more!

  • Cardboard Creators

    Think cardboard is just for boxes? Think again. In this hands-on makerspace adventure, students cut, shape, build and invent using one of the most versatile materials around. From imaginative sculptures and wearable inventions, to life-size games and engineering challenges, your young engineer will develop STEAM skills while turning everyday cardboard into extraordinary creations. Prepare for your young learner to discover that the best ideas begin by thinking outside the box!

  • Swifties in STEAM

    Ready to make the whole place shimmer? Young Swifties will become Swiftie Makers as they explore the Cricut machines and Tinkercad to design personalized charms, bookmarks, decals, and more inspired by the iconic styles and eras of Taylor Swift. Each class is filled with creativity, self-expression and hands-on maker fun as Swifties bring their ideas to life!

  • Snap Circuit Silliness

    Get ready to flip the switch on fun! In Snap Circuit Silliness, students explore the buzzy world of electricity through hands-on building challenges and teamwork adventures. Using snap circuits, young inventors create everything from light-up games to mini alarms, learning how circuits, switches and power flow work along the way. Each day brings plenty of “aha!” moments as students connect the dots (and the wires!) between imagination and innovation.

  • Micro:bit Makers

    Digital and physical worlds collide combining software and hardware in this fun introduction to physical computing. Learn and practice coding skills as you program your Micro:bit to work as a variety of interactive devices. Program scrolling messages across an LED screen, keep and display a score, play Rock-Paper-Scissors and more!

  • Digital Design Studio: Content Creators

    Ready to create content that stands out? In this in-the-field digital design class, students explore photography, graphic design and media marketing while learning how to capture compelling images and create professional-looking graphics.   • Club SciKidz: Wizarding World

    Let your imagination run wild! From hippogriffs and house elves to sorting hats and spells, join us for a magical time. Paint Hogwarts castle, sculpt Dobby the house elf, draw mythical creatures, make a Marauder’s Map, create your own wand — and more! Bring your favorite HP book(s) to school to freshen up on spells, characters and discuss analogies to the muggle world today. So much magic to do!

  • Brick by Block: Build. Test. Grow.

    What happens when LEGO meets Minecraft? Students work together to tackle exciting engineering challenges with LEGO bricks before recreating their designs in the digital world of Minecraft, discovering how ideas can grow and improve through creativity and innovation. Along the way, they’ll strengthen their teamwork, problem-solving, and design skills as they experience the iterative design process firsthand.

  • Eggcellent Engineering

    Can you protect an egg from the ultimate drop test? Students design, build and test creative solutions to the classic egg drop challenge while exploring the engineering design process through hands-on experimentation and iteration. With each test, your engineer will analyse their results, refine their designs and discover how failure is often the first step toward an even better idea!

  • Builder Bonanza

    Build It. Test It. Improve It. From soaring rubberband airplanes to speedy balloon-powered cars, students will tackle exciting engineering challenges that explore the forces behind motion. Each project encourages young engineers to think creatively, solve problems, and discover that every great engineer learns from failure and that every redesign brings them one step closer to success.

  • Minecraft Maniacs

    Grab your pickaxe and power up your creativity — it's time to build a world of your own! In this collaborative Minecraft class, students work together and independently to design and construct an original world from scratch. Whether you're crafting castles, coding Redstone contraptions or building secret hideouts, there’s room for every kind of creator. Your world is waiting... Let's build it!
