IDEA Space offers after school classes, summer camps and school partnerships for students in kindergarten-grade 12 throughout Kansas City.

Looking for after-school activities that are enriching, active and fun for your child? IDEA Space students acquire future-proof skills and get comfortable with the technologies and tools that are shaping our future.  Spring after-school class sessions run January through May.

  • The Knight School Chess Class

    Foundational chess strategies with a futuristic twist.  The Knight School teaches students of all skill levels and ages to play chess. Beginners are welcome! This course features fast chess clocks, colorful silicone wristbands, zany movies, tournaments, tactics curriculum and a fun spirit that kids love. This semester-long class includes a chess set with first enrollment. Already taken this class? Repeat it to build your skills.

  • Cupcakes & Coding: Minecraft Edition

    Cupcakes. Minecraft. Need we say more? Learn and practice computer science skills, principles of game design, computer animation and more as you code your way through the blocky world of Minecraft to create, play and share your own games. Cap off each class with a cupcake!

  • Mad Science: Inventive Investigation

    This series of classes explores energy in many forms and the diversity of animal life. Feel the teeth of predators on the land and in the seas and the impressive powers of force and motion. Tame wild electrons and harness the energy of elastic materials that help things stretch, bend and spring.

  • Mad Science: Pre-K Science Explorers

    Develop a taste for discovery in this course as we shed light on some of science’s greatest mysteries. Explore the secret lives of worms and the inner workings of our own human bodies. Learn how light makes the world such a colorful place and how oceans and seas make their own sandy beaches and provide habitat for more than a million species. Find out about smells and flavors and what makes different materials slippery, sticky, soft, hard or even bouncy!

  • Rocket League RC

    Rocket League is a classic eSporting favorite, but this course adds a new twist by bringing the game into the real world. Team up with your classmates to play Rocket League; the video game and in real life, with your customized RC car that you get to take home with the 3D printed car bodies you designed. Play Rocket League on powerful IDEA Space Tech Lab PCs and modify a car body design for a real remote controlled car. 3D print your customized shell and try it out on the pitch against other cars to see who can score the most goals.

  • Cookies & CAD: Intro to Tinkercad

    Cookies today for the architects of tomorrow! Tinkercad allows even the youngest designers to quickly  turn their ideas into 3D models. Practice using a mouse and keyboard to combine three-dimensional shapes into complex parts and scenes. Learn how 3D printers work and how to turn your designs on the screen into real machine-fabricated parts to take home!

  • Club SciKidz: Camp Jurassic

    Dinosaurs may be extinct, but they are very much alive in Camp Jurassic. Campers learn about a variety of dinosaurs and their habitats. Rocks, minerals, and fossils are studied while campers take on a variety of geology-themed projects. Pan for gems and minerals, build a volcano, make a cast of a sea shell fossil, and excavate a dinosaur. This is Geology 101!

  • Minecraft Maniacs

    Whether you are trying out the world of Minecraft for the first time or you’re well-versed in eluding Creepers and other mobs, this camp will be a fun time in the sandbox.  With your team, you will face challenges and earn rewards in both creative and survival mode,  all of which will lead to a grand tournament at the end of the course where teams will compete for the glory of it all.

Summer STEAM Camps

IDEA Space hosts Summer at Barstow STEAM camps for kindergarten through grade 12 all summer long. If your student wants to develop science, technology, engineering, arts and math skills through exciting hands-on activities, this is the place to be!

Summer at Barstow offers hundreds of camp adventures for every age, interest, schedule and budget. STEAM experiences include Challenge Island, 3D Printing Exploration, Comic Book Creators, PC Gaming, Modern Quilting, Drone Building, Virtual Reality and more.
