This year's FIRST Robotics season is underway, and Team 1939 is already planning, prototyping and preparing to compete.
During a marathon work weekend at the Dan & Cassidy Towriss IDEA Space, robotics team members discovered the 2026 game theme and started the collaborative process of designing and building their robot — with the goal of qualifying for a regional competition.
The 2026 FIRST Robotics game is called REBUILT, based on "reimagining the past using STEM skills." In competition, alliances of three teams each will score points by programming robots to successfully climb towers, collect objects (fuel) to shoot into a hub and navigate obstacles on a specially designed field.
Upper school robotics team members will spend hours — including Saturday sessions — working on their robot at IDEA Space to prepare for the first regional contest in Oklahoma in early March. They'll take advantage of IDEA Space's Incubation Hub and Fabrication Workshop to create specialized parts and set up a practice field to help the team prepare to take on their opponents.
